Improving mobile interface - e. g. faster access to extensions

Hi,

I see some great opportunities to make better use of the menu/address bar in the Waterfox Android version. The current setup is very static and unfortunately does not really take individual user preferences into account.

At the moment, we have buttons for Reader View, New Tab, Tab Overview, and the main menu.

As a default configuration, this is perfectly fine. However, it would be great if users had the option to customize these buttons and their actions.

Just as an example, I would personally configure it like this:

• Reader View button: Open the uBlock Origin menu
• Tab Overview button: Open the extensions list instead, since the tab overview can already be opened by swiping up
• New Tab button: Keep the current action, but add:
  Long press with menu to "close current tab" and "open a new private tab"

The same concept could also be applied to the main menu button. For example, a long press could open the settings menu. That would free up another button/action slot, where users could assign one function to a normal tap and another one to a long press.

Ideally, both tap actions and long-press actions could be configurable independently for each button.

I think this kind of static interface is a common problem in many products today. It forces users into one very specific workflow, even though that workflow may be completely unsuitable for how many people actually use the browser.

Providing customizable toolbar actions would make Waterfox Android much more flexible without changing the default experience for users who are already happy with it.
