Hi, you might be running into an issue similar to:
#64
Where it selects an invalid proton version like Proton BattleEye Runtime or Proton Voice Files.
Can you please provide the vrserver logfile?
I'm not at my PC right now but it should be somewhere in ~/.steam/Steam/logs/vrserver.txt or similar.
You will see in the log which Proton version is used

The lens distortion helper error popup is gone now, right?
Does completely unmodded vanilla SteamVR start up without crash?

I have to click ok and it boots up but the image is still upside down

Do you have Proton and SteamVR installed in your home library?

By the way I am not affiliated in any way with the creator of the driver. I'm just a random dude trying to help others since I was also fighting with a lot of issues and the creator seems to have mostly retired. It definitely still works.

I strongly recommend following the inofficial installation guide. I have no idea if the creator's patreon script is up to date.

Hey guys,
chiming in. The easiest workaround for this is adding this to your SteamVR as a launch argument in steam:

PROTON_VERSION=11.0 %command%

just make sure you have the version installed.
The lens server starts with this perfectly fine.
