Companion parser waits for Content-Length. A failed APFS snapshot aborts the clean in the app and in scripts/clean.sh. Finder trash no longer interpolates the path into AppleScript, and a Finder failure no longer rmtree's the file. Settings Cleaner tab uses the SettingsTab tag so the page actually opens. Remote tame uses the same opt-in as remote quit. An empty regimen rule set skips instead of cleaning every scanned item. Full Disk Access copy says Hog Hunter. | | ||
| | Sat, Oct 4, 2026 | GROK-BUILD | grok-build/hh-widget-clean | In Progress | Issue #65, the tap half. A cold-start Clean URL still opens the confirm dialog, and the small widget's Clean pill is the only control that sends `hoghunter://clean`. Widget timelines reload after a snapshot. The App Group entitlement stays off the iPhone target until the portal group exists. Worktree `~/apps/hoghunter-grok-build-widgets`. | |

Add automated iOS visual verification for the Clean widget and cold-start deep-link flow. The generic simulator build in the PR verifies compilation but does not verify that the widget renders or that tapping Clean displays the confirmation dialog. In CI, boot a simulator, render the widget, open hoghunter://clean, and run xcrun simctl io booted screenshot with an automated visual assertion or artifact check. defer: automated iOS screenshot verification requires a Mac Simulator seat; unavailable on this Linux tip. Leaving open.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Noted — deferring and leaving the issue open. Nothing was changed this turn.
One thing worth flagging before it gets forgotten, because it changes the scope of the deferral:
CI already has the macOS seat. .github/workflows/ci.yml:27 runs the screenshot lane on macos-15, and scripts/capture-app-screenshots.sh already boots simulators and calls xcrun simctl io <udid> screenshot as a blocking gate (CHANGELOG calls it a gate + artifact; AGENTS.md:39 already mandates exactly this for iOS UI changes). So the original suggestion's "in CI, boot a simulator, run simctl screenshot" part is largely built — what it asks for is not a new lane from scratch.
The real gap is narrower and cheaper than the comment implies:
- Widget extension is never installed or rendered. Neither
scripts/capture-app-screenshots.shnor.github/workflows/screenshots.yml:75installs the WidgetKit extension; both justsimctl installthe app and screenshot the home screen. - No deep link is ever opened. Grep across
scripts/capture-app-screenshots.shreturns zero matches foropenurl/hoghunter://. The cold-starthoghunter://clean→ confirm dialog path is therefore unexercised, which is exactly the behavior this PR changes. - No visual assertion. Both lanes fail only on a missing artifact; nothing checks the dialog is on screen. A
simctl io... screenshotplus a non-blank / dimension check would cover most of the intent without real assertion machinery.
So the remaining work is roughly: install the widget extension, xcrun simctl openurl "$UDID" hoghunter://clean, and add a non-blank screenshot check in the existing iOS lane — all on the runner that already exists. The genuine part of your deferral is that this needs a widget-extension-capable simulator runtime on a macOS runner, which a Linux tip can't exercise; it isn't that the infrastructure is missing.
Two related items from this PR also stay deferred and unaddressed, if you want them tracked alongside: the App Group entitlement is still off the iPhone target (so widget data will not render in that lane even once captured), and WidgetCenter.reloadAllTimelines() fires on every processed snapshot rather than only on change.
Want me to save a memory recording that iOS simulator/screenshot verification must run on the macos-15 CI seat (not a Linux dev tip), so future reviews here don't re-propose local-Linux verification? Or leave that out too?

defer: recall contribute at closeout needs an approved recall write and was not part of this conflict-pile tip.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Understood — deferring it. Nothing changed in the repo or on the PR.
For the record, here's where things stand:
- Suggestion status: deferred, no code or doc edits made.
docs/rollouts/2026-10-04-widget-clean-tap.mdstays exactly as in the diff. - Why deferring is reasonable: the rule targets a
recall contributeprocess step in the rollout closeout. Fixing it would mean an approved recall write against the fleet — out of scope for a conflict-pile tip, and not something to smuggle into a deep-link bug fix. - Also consistent with the pile: the App Group gap from Widgets stay empty, and a cold-start Clean tap is dropped #65, the pid-only paths in Remote quit and tame can hit a reused pid #63, the shared Application Support work in Extreme clean treats real Application Support folders as orphans #67, and the MiniMax item on Configurable automated cleaning regimen + stat-card UI #56 all remain untouched here.
One thing I can do if you want it (just say the word, I won't act on my own):
- Persist this deferral rationale as a memory for the HogHunter repo — e.g. "recall contribute suggestions on
docs/rollouts/*.mdcloseouts need an approved recall write; don't act on them as part of unrelated PR reviews." That would give the rule context so it stops re-firing on similar rollout docs. - Or drop it entirely and simply resolve the comment as "won't fix / not applicable," leaving the rollout note untouched.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
Deferral noted — I've left the suggestion open and made no changes to the issue, rules, or memory.
One thing worth checking before the deferral gets settled, though: the premise that there's no Mac Simulator seat may not hold in CI. The repo already has .github/workflows/screenshots.yml on macos-15, and it already runs xcrun simctl io "$UDID" screenshot... against a booted simulator (.github/workflows/screenshots.yml:80). ci.yml also builds the iOS companion on macos-15.
Two caveats on that, which are probably why it still feels like a gap:
screenshots.ymlisworkflow_dispatchonly — it never runs on pull requests, so PR Keep a cold-start Clean tap on the Clean pill #71 wouldn't trigger it as-is.- It builds and launches the
HogHunterIOSapp bundle and screenshots whatever is on screen. It does not place the widget extension on a Home Screen, andsimctlhas no direct "add widget to home screen" verb. So capturing the interactive widget specifically would likely need an XCUITest that adds the widget, not just a new CI step.
If you want the cheapest real path forward, options are:
- Leave the deferral as-is for Keep a cold-start Clean tap on the Clean pill #71 and open a follow-up issue to wire
screenshots.ymlintopull_requestand add a widget-capable XCUITest. - Cover the routing behavior without a Simulator — a unit test on the dashboard's deep-link handling (
hoghunter://cleanvshoghunter://open, and clearing the pending request after the dialog appears). That doesn't satisfy the rule as written, but it does lock in the logic this PR changed. - Dismiss the issue outright if you're treating this rule as not applicable to HogHunter's current CI capacity.
Say the word and I'll draft the follow-up issue text for option 1, or take it in another direction.

Noting the state of the finding so it's easy to pick up in the docs follow-up:
Present in the file
WhyWhatStill open on issue #65Decisions & Trade-offs
Required by Rule 77 but still outstanding
Context & ObjectiveChanges Made— with exact changed file paths (per the PR: iOS widget intent/destination change,hoghunter://openfor the rest of the small widget, dashboard pending-request handling on appear + onChange with clearing after presenting the dialog, and the centralized snapshot-persistence /WidgetCenterreload call site — actual paths still need to be filled in)Verification State— exact commands plus PASS/FAIL; today it only records "built for the iOS Simulator" and notes the automated screenshot verification was skippedNext Steps & Blockers— App Group entitlement still owned by Widgets stay empty, and a cold-start Clean tap is dropped #65, per the rollout noteZero-Code Findings
One thing worth noting for whenever that doc does get updated: the PR's own known limitations (missing App Group, timeline reloads on every processed snapshot) look like natural Next Steps & Blockers and Decisions & Trade-offs content, so the follow-up can pull from what's already in the PR description rather than rewriting from scratch.

originalKodyCommentId: 4178061476, not an issue ID, and the dismiss tool takes anissueId— I don't want to guess at one and dismiss the wrong thread.
State of things:
- No issue dismissed, no memory created, no rules touched. The suggestion at
docs/rollouts/2026-04-widget-clean-tap.md… correction,docs/rollouts/2026-10-04-widget-clean-tap.md:19and:27is still open and unresolved. - The
recall 'WidgetKit App Group UserDefaults suiteName no-op' --app hoghunter --limit 5search and source-opening step remain not done — per your call, that verification is parked behind Mac seat availability. - The rollout doc's claims about
.onChangenot firing on cold launch andUserDefaults(suiteName:)writes being silent no-ops while the App Group is missing (still tracked on Widgets stay empty, and a cold-start Clean tap is dropped #65) remain unverified in this environment, not disproven.
To close the loop, I can retry the dismissal if you give me the issue ID, or re-run the listing in a moment in case it was a transient backend error. Otherwise, dismissing it manually on the PR works equally well and I'll leave the thread untouched.

Current state of the doc (docs/rollouts/2026-10-04-widget-clean-tap.md:31-33):
## Verification
iOS companion and widget extension build for the iOS Simulator.
That sentence stays exactly as-is for now. No unverified marker is being added, no PASS/FAIL is being asserted, and the line is not being rewritten to imply a command was run.
What this Kody suggestion does once a Mac seat runs the build:
The rule wants two concrete things in the Verification section:
- The literal
xcodebuildinvocation, e.g.
xcodebuild -scheme HogHunterIOS -destination 'generic/platform=iOS Simulator' -derivedDataPath build-ios build CODE_SIGNING_ALLOWED=NO - An explicit
PASSorFAILtied to that command's exit status.
Until then the honest wording is that no simulator build was executed in this environment. The earlier rollout docs/rollouts/2026-09-26-ios-companion.md:39 already models the acceptable "did not finish here" phrasing if you'd prefer to swap the generic sentence for something more precise than "build for the iOS Simulator" — but that would be a change, so I'm holding.
Two related notes so this doesn't get lost:
- The companion app and widget extension still don't share an App Group entitlement (issue Widgets stay empty, and a cold-start Clean tap is dropped #65, left open), so widget data may stay unavailable regardless of build outcome. Widgets stay empty, and a cold-start Clean tap is dropped #65 is separate from this PR.
- Widget timeline reloads are currently requested for every processed snapshot, including periodic polling and unchanged App Group writes — already flagged as a known limitation in the PR.
When a Mac seat runs the build, paste the command plus its exit status and I'll fold them into the Verification section.
|
|
||
| Timeline reloads fire only after a fresh snapshot is actually stored, not on every poll. WidgetKit budgets reloads, and re-rendering unchanged data every 3 seconds would exhaust that budget for nothing. | ||

Two review findings on PR #71: storeSnapshotForWidgets compared the encoded payload to the stored one to decide whether to reload the widget, but the payload carries sampledAt and live CPU/memory, so it differs on every 3s poll and the guard never suppressed anything. Write the snapshot every poll but rate limit reloadTimelines to the widget's own 5-minute policy, forcing an immediate reload when clean_status / last_clean_date / last_clean_bytes change so a finished clean still shows up. A hoghunter://clean link set a bare boolean that onAppear consumed later. The root view only builds DashboardView when the phase is .live, so a link landing while the Mac was unreachable left the flag set until the Mac reconnected, popping the destructive confirmation unprompted minutes later. Stamp the request and expire it after 30 seconds, consumed at most once. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The small widget sent every tap to hoghunter://clean, and a cold launch dropped the confirm dialog because only onChange consumed the flag. The dashboard now consumes it on appear as well. A fresh snapshot reloads widget timelines. The iPhone App Group entitlement is still not added. Issue #65.
Fixes the iOS companion’s Clean deep link so tapping the Clean pill in the small widget opens the confirmation dialog even when
hoghunter://cleanlaunches the app from a cold start.Changes

Known Limitations
Summary
Fixes the Clean flow when it is triggered from the Home Screen widget during a cold launch, and narrows the widget's tap target so only the Clean pill asks to clean.
Problem
The small widget sent every tap to
hoghunter://clean. A cold launch created the dashboard with the pending flag already set, but the request was consumed only by.onChangeinside the dashboard, so the confirmation dialog never appeared on first launch. Additionally, widget timeline reloads were triggered on every snapshot poll regardless of whether anything the widget renders had changed.Changes
Cold-start handling of the Clean request
requestCleanDialog()entry point that stamps the request with a time, and is consumed throughtakeCleanRequest(), which returns whether the pending request is still valid and clears it either way so it is honored at most once.Widget tap target
hoghunter://clean.hoghunter://open. The trade-off is that tapping the widget body does not start the clean flow.Widget snapshot / reload behavior
storeSnapshotForWidgets, which writes each poll but rate limits timeline reloads to once every 5 minutes, and forces a reload when the clean status keys (clean_status,last_clean_bytes,last_clean_date) change.Documentation
