Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I am experiencing multiple input and display issues with Tales of Seikyu on Linux. The behavior is somewhat inconsistent and difficult to reproduce reliably, but at least one input-related issue is always present.

When I first launched the game without Proton enabled, the game started successfully. However, fullscreen mode did not work correctly. The game only ran in windowed mode, and the game window was partially positioned off-screen. Each time I launched the game, I had to manually move the window back into a usable position.

After playing and later restarting the game, a new issue appeared. Mouse movement no longer controlled the camera. As a result, I was unable to rotate or move the camera at all. Restarting both the game and my computer did not resolve this problem.

To troubleshoot, I enabled Proton and tested Proton Experimental, Proton Hotfix, GE-Proton 10.32, and the latest available GE-Proton release.

With Proton enabled, fullscreen mode generally worked correctly again, and camera controls were sometimes restored. However, a different issue appeared. While I could navigate the game's menus normally, keyboard input stopped working entirely once a save was loaded and I entered the game world. I could not move my character or perform any actions using the keyboard.

After testing with Proton, I disabled Proton again and launched the game without it. However, the behavior did not return to its original state. The camera controls and fullscreen functionality continued to work in some cases, but the keyboard input issue remained.

The most confusing aspect is that the symptoms are not always identical between launches. The issues appear somewhat random:

Sometimes camera controls via mouse movement do not work.
Sometimes both camera controls and keyboard input fail.
Sometimes only keyboard input fails.
Fullscreen behavior also changed during testing.

I have not been able to identify a reliable set of steps that consistently produces exactly the same result. However, at least one of these input-related issues is always present whenever I launch the game.

It appears that enabling Proton may have changed something about the game's configuration or input handling, as the behavior after disabling Proton was different from the initial non-Proton experience.

Additional information:

Keyboard: Wired USB connection (KVM switch)
Mouse: Bluetooth connection
Latest NVIDIA drivers provided by Pop!_OS
Proton versions tested:
Proton Experimental
Proton Hotfix
GE-Proton 10.32
Latest GE-Proton release
No error messages were displayed during any of these tests

Expected behavior:

The game should launch in fullscreen mode.
Camera controls should work consistently with mouse movement.
Keyboard controls should function normally both in menus and in-game.
Input behavior should remain consistent between launches.

Actual behavior:

Fullscreen mode initially did not work.
Camera controls sometimes stop responding.
Keyboard input sometimes stops working entirely after entering the game world.
The exact symptoms vary between launches, but at least one input-related issue is always present.

Additional observations:

I have also experienced similar input-related issues in other games on this system.

In Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian, I have encountered problems with both camera controls and keyboard input that appear similar to the issues described above.

In Path of Exile 2, I have occasionally experienced keyboard input problems as well, although they appear less severe and occur intermittently.

Because similar symptoms have appeared across multiple games, there may be an underlying issue related to input handling, Steam Input, Proton, or another component of the Linux gaming stack rather than a problem specific to Tales of Seikyu.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

Unfortunately, the issue is not consistently reproducible.

  1. Launch Tales of Seikyu on Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS.
  2. Start or load a game.
  3. Play normally, then close and relaunch the game.
  4. Observe that one or more input-related issues may occur:
    • Mouse camera controls stop working.
    • Keyboard input stops working in-game.
    • Both issues occur simultaneously.
  5. Test with and without Proton (Proton Experimental, Proton Hotfix, GE-Proton 10.32, and latest GE-Proton) and observe that the symptoms may change but at least one issue remains present.
