Configuration Guide

Environment Variables

Root .env file controls Docker Compose settings.

Location: ./env

Configure:

make setup-env    # Interactive setup
# or
cp example.env .env && vim .env

After changes: Restart affected services

make restart

Service Configurations

Matrix Client

Location: config/client/conf.yaml

Setup:

make setup-client

After changes:

make restart-client
# or
docker compose restart matrix-client

Interface API

Location: config/interface-api/.env

Setup:

make setup-interface

After changes:

make restart-interface
# or
docker compose restart interface-api

Migrations: Run after database schema changes

make migrate-interface

Authy API

Location: config/authy-api/.env

Setup:

make setup-authy

After changes:

make restart-authy
# or
docker compose restart authy-api

Migrations: Run after database schema changes

make migrate-authy

Database Encryption

Enable at build time via root .env:

ENABLE_DB_ENCRYPTION=true

Rebuild after changing:

make rebuild

Network Architecture

Services communicate via internal Docker network shortmesh-network.

Internal only:

  • RabbitMQ (ports 5672, 15672)
  • Matrix Client (port 8080)

External (localhost only):

  • Interface API: 127.0.0.1:8082
  • Authy API: 127.0.0.1:8083

Configuration Refresh

Fetch latest default configurations:

make fetch-defaults

Reset all configurations:

make clean-config
make setup
