Unsure if server selection is working - clarification is needed.

I have followed all the steps detailed under the "Select Servers" section, but a few details seem to have been left out.

Do I need to select Local or Expanded matchmaking in-game for this to work? When I select local I simply don't find games, but when I select expanded I seem to still get servers that are outside of the ones I selected. I've tried a bunch of different server configurations and only recently does it seem like it is working after selecting South Central US with expanded matchmaking on, but since then I have only ever gotten games on the San Antonio servers - not even getting games on West US servers.

I know this probably isnt an issue in the typical sense, but I'm just slightly confused and frustrated trying to get this to work as intended. Have my problems been a matter of there simply being no players queuing on any of my previously selected servers and thus it defaults to searching regions outside of my selection?

Edit: Just now my streak of getting the servers I selected got randomly broken, put me on a european server which I had not selected. So confused man

If you only selected one server and Local finds nothing, it usually just means there weren't enough players in your skill range queuing on that region at that moment. Local only searches the regions you selected, so with a single one you have no fallback. Ideally pick 3 or 4 servers, choosing regions you're happy with across the board, since you can't steer between them.

On Expanded, you may get placed on servers you didn't select: the game can't tell them apart, so it can pick a genuinely far one.
