Color Codes Guide

by Alp [@AlpDerps in discord]

This page describes how to use color codes, formatting, gradients and effects.
All you need is &, type it before a code and it works in chat, signs, anvils, quests, anywhere text is rendered.

The 16 Classic Colors

These are the same Minecraft color codes you might know from servers, except now you can actually type them without needing any server plugins.

Code Color Preview
&0 Black image
&1 Dark Blue image
&2 Dark Green image
&3 Dark Aqua image
&4 Dark Red image
&5 Dark Purple image
&6 Gold image
&7 Gray image
&8 Dark Gray image

&a Green image
&b Aqua image
&c Red image

Put the color before your text and everything after it will be that color, until you use another color or reset with &r.

examples:
&cThis is red
&cThis is red &eand this is yellow

Formatting examples

RGB Hex Colors

16 colors not enough? Pick literally any color you want.
Go to any color picker (google "color picker"), grab the hex code, and put &# in front of it.

Code Color Preview
&#FF6B4A Coral Orange image
&#4ECDC4 Soft Teal image
&#7B68EE Slate Blue image
&#FF69B4 Hot Pink image

That's it. 16 million colors at your disposal.
Works exactly like the basic colors, everything after the code gets that color.

RGB hex color examples

Gradients

Smoothly blend between two colors across your text.
The format is &g followed by two hex colors, a start color and an end color.

The longer the text, the smoother the fade looks.

Code Description Preview
&g&#FF0000&#FFFF00 Fire image
&g&#00FF87&#FF00FF Mint to Magenta image
&g&#FFFFFF&#000000 Light to Dark image
&g&#FF1493&#FFD700 Pink to Gold image
&g&#FF6347&#4169E1 Sunset to Ocean image

The gradient runs until it hits another color code or a &r reset.
You can chain multiple gradients in one line:
&g&#FF0000&#FFD700fire &g&#4169E1&#00FFFFice

Gradient examples

Rainbow

&q and everything after it cycles through rainbow colors. Not much else to say.

&q Rainbow image

Wavy Text

&z makes text bob up and down, one character at a time.
Goes well with other things, combine it with colors or gradients.

Code Description Preview
&z Wavy text image
&c&z Red wavy text image
&g&#00CED1&#FF69B4&z Wavy gradient image

Mixing Everything Together

Color goes first, then style codes. You can mix and match pretty much anything.

Code Description Preview
&g&#FF0000&#FFFF00&l Bold fire gradient image
&#FF69B4&l&o Bold italic pink image
&g&#00CED1&#FF69B4&z&l Bold wavy gradient image

if your formatting starts bleeding into text that should be clean, drop a &r to reset:
&c&lIMPORTANT: &rthis part is normal again
