seems like many users (including myself) get confused when they try to install this patch since the wiki links directly to all releases of this repo, including the ci_build-... ones. but these ci builds don't work on end-users' systems:
The ci_build versions are not ready for release, they're pre-release only, I just don't know how to get Github to show the current release first.
Try the latest stable version: https://github.com/Lymia/MPPatch/releases/tag/v0.1.3
This happens because the development version currently doesn't know what to do when it can't find the Civ V installation. The stable version lets you select the directory.

you can edit the link in the user manual to instead filter to only show versions starting with v0. this is a good enough solution to prevent end-user confusion for now
i found the following link to work as intended:
https://github.com/Lymia/MPPatch/releases?q=v0
related #87 and #97
