Use of classification in SEKO3 (planning) #187

Description

@jarmosaarikko

Several options need to be considered

Plan

  • Add classification notation to the SEKO3 instrument Concepts
  • Map to the Hornbostel-Sachs classification - two options
    • either directly to the MIMO version or
    • install the Finnish translation as a skos:conceptScheme and map to that (it is exactMatch to the MIMO)
      • In this local setup the classes could then be mapped to the SEKO-instruments (similarly as is done in MIMO)
      • Consider creating a new translation based on the MIMO version
        • The Finnish translation of Leisiö 2010 is missing parts of the classification and is based on the 1914 version with has some cultural bias (European view, culturally outdated terminology).
        • The MIMO version has more extensive descriptions, whch may or may not be useful.

There is some need for discussion by MUUSA for the need of a new translation for the Finnish music libraries, archives and museums. Could be accomplished as a sub-project to SEKO3.

Actions

  • a separate folder and its README.md describes the plans
  • A combined datased has been created from the Leisiö 2010 and MIMO 2011 versions and uploaded to OpenRefine.
    • It is not yet shared.
