Requirement from BMW/Catena-X Context:
the current version of the IDTA submodel Carbon Footprint provides no option to supply the CO₂ value and material share for metals and metal salts, nor product quality parameters that have a significant impact on the CO₂ value. Both information are required by the current draft of the supplement to the Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing the methodology for the calculation and verification of the carbon footprint of electric vehicle batteries (Link). They are described in “2.3.1. Mandatory company-specific processes (e)” in the linked document.
As the current draft does not detail the data requirements further, we propose two additional data attributes for the submodel Carbon Footprint:
contentC02Metals
Description: The specific content and the carbon footprint of metals and metal salts that are targeted by the default battery cell recycling process, at least regarding steel, aluminium, copper, cobalt, nickel, manganese, lithium, graphite, silicon, titanium, vanadium, silver, gold, platinum group metals and phosphorous. If such metals and metal salts contain recycled content, the carbon footprint of EV_Mat and Erecycled_Mat shall be provided.
Data Type: String
Relevance: Optional
Example: “Material: Nickel, Specific Content: 50.5%, EV_Mat: 4.9 kg CO₂e/kg ,Erecycled_Mat: 2.3 kg CO₂e/kg; Material: Cobalt, Specific Content: 6.0%, EV_Mat: 13.0 kg CO₂e/kg ,Erecycled_Mat: 4.2 kg CO₂e/kg”
productQualityParameter
Description: Product quality parameters affecting product carbon footprint
Data Type: String
Relevance: Optional
Example: “purity of active material: 99.8%; specific capacity of NMC811: 200 mAh/g; energy density of cells: 250 Wh/kg”
