DFN supports both JS and TS code through Babel compilation. But TS code isn't syntax checked by Babel, so there needs to be a separate syntax/type checking step to do this.
Note that syntax checking can run in parallel to actually evaluating the notebook.
This would be best implemented in the evaluation-engine package.
There is a test notebook that can be used to test this: error - typescript type error.notebook
