The Hoccleve Project

The Hoccleve project aims to create a digital variorum/critical edition of the works of the Middle English poet, Thomas Hoccleve, especially his magnum opus.

The project itself makes use of HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, JSON, and Jquery.

In this GitWiki, we hope to explain how the project operates and share the use of the libraries and the technical side of things for future eyes to be able to comprehend what code does what, and how to manipulate the data properly.

How the System Works

The intended use for the project is to present a page with a list of the documents (which are stored in an XML format) and when the user selects the poem, the page is rewritten in a document layout of the poem's content.

From here, the user can highlight a word, right click, and select to either search the current poem, or the entire lexicon for that word and where it appears. Once a selection is clicked - a small window will appear displaying the results.

It's important to note though, the higher the occurrence of a word, the longer the time needed to search and return the values.
