Summary

Fix high severity security issue in binding/xml.go.

Vulnerability

Field Value
ID V-001
Severity HIGH
Scanner multi_agent_ai
Rule V-001
File binding/xml.go:20
CWE CWE-918

Description: The XML binding in Gin uses Go's encoding/xml package via xml.NewDecoder without any explicit configuration to restrict internal entity processing. While Go's standard library does not support external entity resolution (preventing classic XXE file read/SSRF), it does process internal DTD entities. This enables billion laughs (XML bomb) denial-of-service attacks where recursive entity definitions cause exponential memory consumption during parsing. The binding directly decodes untrusted XML from HTTP request bodies without entity expansion limits.

Changes

  • binding/xml.go

Verification

  • Build passes
  • Scanner re-scan confirms fix
  • LLM code review passed

Security Invariant

Property: The security boundary is maintained under adversarial input

// TestXMLBindingAdversarialInputs verifies that the XML binding maintains
// security boundaries under adversarial inputs including XML bomb / billion
// laughs attacks and other malicious XML payloads.
//
// Security invariant: parsing adversarial XML must not cause unbounded memory
// growth or hang the process. The binding must either complete within a
// reasonable time/memory budget or return an error — it must never silently
// consume excessive resources.

This test guards against regressions — it's useful independent of the code change above.
