🚨 Severity: HIGH
πŸ’‘ Vulnerability: Rate limiting middleware was commented out in backend/src/app.ts, exposing the API to brute-force and DoS attacks. Additionally, the backend was unable to start (DoS) due to an incompatible version of @fastify/jwt.
🎯 Impact: Without rate limiting, attackers could flood the API. The dependency mismatch prevented the application from running.
πŸ”§ Fix:

  1. Uncommented and enabled @fastify/rate-limit in backend/src/app.ts.
  2. Downgraded @fastify/jwt from ^10.0.0 to ^8.0.0 to resolve incompatibility with Fastify v4 (v10 requires Fastify v5).
  3. Created Jest configuration and a rate limit integration test suite.
βœ… Verification: Run cd backend && npm test to verify the rate limiting test passes. The application also starts successfully now.
