🚨 Severity: HIGH
πŸ’‘ Vulnerability: Rate limiting was globally disabled/commented out, exposing the API to brute-force and DoS attacks. Additionally, the global error handler masked 429 Too Many Requests errors as 500 Internal Server Errors.
🎯 Impact: Unrestricted API access could lead to service degradation and credential stuffing. Error masking prevents clients from handling backoff correctly.
πŸ”§ Fix:

  1. Enabled @fastify/rate-limit in app.ts.
  2. Updated errorHandler to respect rate limit error codes.
  3. Fixed @fastify/jwt dependency version mismatch.
  4. Added integration tests for rate limiting.
βœ… Verification: Ran npm test in backend/ verifying 429 status code is returned after limit is exceeded.

PR created automatically by Jules for task 11758525503149718865 started by @Magnopiro-oficial
