PITR backups compete with live queries on IOPS-limited volumes. Default backup process-max to 1 and start-fast to n, preserving explicit overrides and existing WAL shipping, restore, cadence and retention settings.
Backups can start and finish later. This reduces reader concurrency and checkpoint write bursts; it is not a hard IOPS cap. README documents overrides and checkpoint timeout tuning.
Validation: 11 WAL archive Rust tests and 25 shell wrapper tests pass; cargo fmt, shell syntax and diff checks pass. Initial-full E2E covers the default single reader, spread checkpoints and native override precedence. Docker E2E and workload benchmarks not run locally.
