TV search focus is brittle with D-pad input

Steps to reproduce

On Android TV, focus the search field and press D-pad center.

Expected behavior

The search box should open and accept input reliably.

Actual behavior

The focus logic depends on a fragile SearchAutoComplete exception path, so keyboard or focus behaviour can break.
