Clip Looping: Enable Crossfade, and Number of Loops up to 1000 - #1232
Completes the Clip Looping dialog (#1030) and closes its entry in docs/gaps.md (G-04).
Number of Loops reaches the loop limit
clip.loop clamped count to 512, i.e. 511 loops, while Loop Length and Loop Until End of Session or Next Clip make up to 1000. count (the clip plus its loops) now runs to 1001 in the engine and the dialog. A larger count is refused without an edit, like the length and fill paths, instead of being clamped silently.
Enable Crossfade
clip.loop takes crossfade (samples, capped at half the clip) and crossfade_shape (default equal power). Every seam between two loops is crossfaded through create_fades, centred on the seam and overlapping over the clip's handles. Without handles, each side fades over its half.
The Clip Looping dialog has an Enable Crossfade checkbox with a length in ms (10 ms by default, disabled until ticked).
Crossfaded iterations overlap, so Unloop now also follows a loop through overlapping clips that share its loop id and source and whose material starts no later than the previous one's. The second half of a crossfaded split clip starts later, so it stays a separate clip. Removing the copies puts the origin back to its own end without the crossfade. Flatten keeps the crossfades.
Tests
Engine: count limit and hostile counts (negative, i64::MAX, 1e300); crossfade overlap over handles, short last loop, flatten, no handles, cap and bad params, crossfaded split inside a loop, undo.
UI: dialog params (with_loop_crossfade), and a kittest that ticks Enable Crossfade, presses OK and unloops.
cargo fmt --check, clippy -p soundcraft-engine -p soundcraft-ui-egui --all-targets -D warnings, all tests of both crates, xtask layers and xtask assets pass. The wasm check of xtask ci was not run locally.
Known limit: with no handles, Unloop leaves the origin's fade-out from the crossfade, since a butt seam can't be told apart from the clip's own fade.
Number of Loops (clip.loop count) was clamped to 512, i.e. 511 loops,
while Loop Length and Loop Until End of Session or Next Clip make up
to 1000. count now runs to 1001 (the clip plus 1000 loops) in the
engine and the dialog, and a larger count is refused without an edit,
like the length and fill paths. Regression test covers the limit and
hostile counts. docs/gaps.md: G-04 entry shrunk to the crossfade part.

It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
Clip Looping now supports configurable crossfades at loop seams and up to 1000 added iterations. Unloop recognizes overlapping crossfaded iterations and restores the origin clip’s end. The dialog, tests, and project records reflect these changes.

Summary
Engine loop creation and limits crates/engine/src/cmd.rs, crates/engine/src/cmd/clip.rs, crates/engine/src/cmd/clip_more.rs
The engine exposes the loop limit, accepts crossfade length and shape parameters, and applies fades at loop seams. It rejects counts above 1000 added iterations. Tests cover crossfade behavior, limits, and invalid parameters.
Crossfaded loop recognition and Unloop crates/engine/src/cmd/clip_more.rs
Loop-chain traversal recognizes overlapping crossfaded iterations. Unloop trims the origin to the seam before removing copies. Tests cover crossfaded loops, flattening, and related cases.
Dialog, integration, and progress records crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/it/clip_looping.rs, ROADMAP.md, docs/gaps.md
The dialog adds an optional crossfade control and uses the engine loop limit. Integration coverage checks looping and Unloop. Project records describe the crossfade and limit changes.

Possibly related issues
storytold/soundcraft#273: The change lets clip.unloop recognize overlapping iterations that share a loop ID and source. The note-edit propagation issue remains outside this change.
storytold/soundcraft#915: The change rejects loop counts above 1000 before editing. It does not add a playlist-wide clip cap or batch processing.

Merge Risk: Low · up to d4cb6
In the split-and-crossfade workflow, Unloop can remove the later user-created half. Fix the predicate before relying on Unloop for those edits.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 1f2c9
A very short final loop can cause crossfading to alter the following clip, which Unloop does not restore. This is a bounded session-editing risk, with whole-edit Undo available. No new privilege expansion was established.
Retained concerns
Medium · reliability · inferred: A short final loop can let the seam-fade operation mutate an unrelated following clip, escaping loop ownership and Unloop recovery. For a 1000-sample origin, a following clip at sample 2050, and a 200-sample crossfade, fill creates a 50-sample final iteration but requests a seam range of 1900–2100. The fade helper can also process the unrelated boundary at 2050, changing the following clip's start and fade. Unloop has no restoration state for that clip. This weakens edit failure containment and semantic rollback; whole-command Undo remains available.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated impact is clip timing and fade state in the current session's active playlist, including a following clip outside the intended loop. The inspected path does not establish a privilege escalation or cross-tenant attack path; its caller already has session-editing capability.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The changed dialog still submits the existing clip.loop command. The engine independently enforces count, duration, and shape controls rather than relying on UI limits. Position parsing also clamps supplied positions to the existing maximum.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — Transactional error recovery is strong counterevidence against half-applied failed loop commands. It does not contain an unintended edit returned as success: restoring an unrelated neighbor requires whole-edit Undo rather than Unloop, potentially requiring intervening edits to be undone as well.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Bind seam fading to the intended loop-owned clip pair and constrain its range using the actual shortened iteration. If modifying unrelated clips is intentional, preserve explicit restoration state rather than relying on chain reconstruction to reverse those changes.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "Clip Looping: Enable Crossfade, and Number of Loops up to 1000" names the two main changes in the changeset. The changeset adds an Enable Crossfade option and a crossfade length to clip.loop and the Clip Looping dialog. It also raises the loop-count limit to 1000 loops, which the MAX_LOOPS constant, the dialog limit, and the docs reflect. The title is specific and matches the main objectives. It does not mention the Unloop changes, but that is a secondary aspect and does not make the title misleading.

A short last loop (fill or length with a small remainder) could be
shorter than half the crossfade, so the seam's range reached past its
end and create_fades crossfaded it into the clip after the loop: that
clip was pulled back and faded in, and Unloop did not undo it. Each
seam's range now ends at the end of the copy it starts. Regression test
with a clip 50 samples into the last loop.

ReviewerA — source-read COMMENT (not an approval)
I read the first hunk: the engine re-exports clip::MAX_LOOPS as MAX_CLIP_LOOPS, and per the title Clip Looping gains Enable Crossfade and the number of loops goes up to 1000. A shared limit constant used by the UI and the command avoids two numbers drifting. Looping a clip 1000 times is cheap if it is represented as a repeat count and not materialised, so say which it is, and that a 1000-times loop of a long clip does not allocate gigabytes of audio. A crossfade must be shorter than half the clip, must keep the total length right, and must not click at the loop point. I did not read the rest. Add tests for the limit (1000 accepted, 1001 refused with the limit in the message), a crossfade longer than the clip (clamped or refused: state which), a loop count of 1, and undo. Nothing was run.
I ran nothing and have no exact-head CI result for this PR, so this is not an approval. Where a diff was long I read its code hunks rather than every generated or documentation line.

Require a non-increasing source offset in crossfaded.
After a loop origin is split, create_fades can make the two halves overlap. The later half has a larger source offset. saturating_sub converts that invalid pullback into zero, so loop_chain treats the later half as a loop copy. clip.unloop then removes it.
