Testcase issue

i cloned this project and followed all instructions you provided to setup on local machine . but due to outdated versions it had many errors though i updated it all . and there is no more errors that i can see but i am getting test case related issues which i tried hard to solve but i am not able to understand where i m missing out .. i am new to spring and i want to learn from your project

Hi Pinki!

Great to hear that you're interested in my old, old project.

It's outdated for a while and it was written in my early years of a software engineer (or rather it was written some years before) so it may be tricky.

I was not able to run it (but I haven't spent too much time on it) so I might give bad advices. But I think it may have something to do with database. The project requires it, and some tests require it as well. Do you have local MySQL spinned up?

P.S. I'm flattered that you're interested in this project but if I could give you an advice - I think it would be better for you to start with a newer project, with newer version of Java and Spring (and preferably with Spring Boot). This one is pretty old and written in time when I was just starting to code, so I feel like lots of code here is pretty bad looking 🙈🙈🙈

Yes, I have MySQL running locally, and I also believe the test failures are related to the database. I’ll review the configuration to see what might be missing. Also, I noticed that you mentioned you weren’t able to run it, but the README contains screenshots—were those from an earlier version when it was working?

I understand that this is an older project, but I’ve updated the dependencies and code, so compatibility isn’t an issue anymore. I’ll give it a final try, and if the test issues persist, I’ll move on to a newer Spring Boot project as you suggested.

I can help you with running this application because as I understand - you would like to have it running locally.

To do that you don't need to run tests. You could run the gradle tomcatRun -x test which skipps tests execution. The other approach would be to either delete all tests or comment them out.

Also if you have any problem just send here the logs that you have. We will try to debug it 😉

I apologize for the late response. I ran the command you suggested and encountered the error. I successfully migrated all data using Flyway into the local MySQL with the credentials you provided for the library-spring db. I also granted all necessary permissions to the database.

The setup looks ok, and connection link as well.

The only thing that I would try is to delete the spring-library database and replaced it with spring_library (with the underscore). As far as I'm aware dashes are discouraged in database engines.
