Purpose

We are adding customer engagement allocations to the CSM team schedule. Today the schedule shows rota turns and leave, but an engineer who is allocated to a customer engagement for several weeks looks free on the schedule. Leads need to see that commitment on the same screen.

Goals

  • Show each engineer's confirmed customer engagement allocations on the team schedule, read-only: bars on the week view and a compact marker on the month roster.
  • Match what the previous schedule showed: one bar per covered day, labelled with the customer account, with the engagement details in the tooltip.
  • Add the read path in every layer, additively, with no change to existing routes or schemas.

Approach

Built bottom-up, one commit per layer:

  1. Entity service ([Entity-Service]): new POST /team-schedule/engagement-allocations/search. Body {userIds (1..500), from, to}, window up to 70 days inclusive, internal callers only (same access check as the other schedule reads). Returns only CONFIRMED allocations whose date range overlaps the window, joined to the engagement and its account. Fields the engagement or account lacks are omitted rather than invented. No migration: every column already exists.
  2. CSM backend ([CSM][BE]): thin passthrough at the same path, view permission, same body handling and upstream error mapping as the neighbouring schedule searches. Documented in the backend openapi.yaml.
  3. CSM webapp ([CSM][Web]): a new hook batches user ids (500) and splits windows (70 days), then the week table draws a read-only engagement section under the leave row, one row per engineer with an allocation that week.
    • Label is the account name, with - <engagement id> when present. Tooltip is type ● mode of delivery ● allocation id ● utilization% ● start - end, omitting absent parts.
    • New theme tokens for the bar, contrast checked in light and dark (text about 8.0:1 and 8.8:1, bar edge at least 3:1).
    • Legend entry shown only when bars are drawn.
    • Month roster: a thin strip along the foot of a day cell on every day the engineer is on a confirmed allocation, absolutely placed in the cell padding so row height, the rota chip, leave, on-call styling and the zone split are untouched. On a zone-split day the strip runs across every zone cell. The strip's tooltip lists each allocation covering the day (label plus the same details as the week bar); its accessible name gives the count and the list, and only the first zone cell of a split day is named so the day is announced once. The roster fetches allocations for exactly the days its grid draws.
    • A failed fetch leaves the schedule unchanged and shows one quiet status line.

Behaviours worth reviewing:

  • Only CONFIRMED allocations are shown. Tentative, cancelled, rejected, accepted-by-consultant and visa-pending states are not.
  • The engagement's own state is not filtered, so a confirmed allocation on a cancelled or completed engagement still shows.
  • The bar is tooltip-only. The allocation carries the engagement row id, and the existing engagement route resolves a case id, so no link is added.
  • The month roster marker does not show a count badge (a 26px zone cell has no room); the count is in the tooltip and accessible name.
  • The roster window is anchor +/- 14, 45 or 91 days, not a calendar month, so stepping the date by a day shifts the window and refetches (cached 60s, previous data kept). Windows over 70 days are split into pieces by the hook.
  • In a week with an empty rota the week table's existing early return still hides everything, as it already hides the leave row.

User stories

As a team lead, I want to see which engineers are allocated to customer engagements this week, so that I can plan rota coverage around them.

Release note

The CSM team schedule week view now shows each engineer's confirmed customer engagement allocations, labelled by customer account.

Documentation

N/A: no product documentation covers the team schedule screen; the new route is documented in the entity service and CSM backend openapi.yaml.

Training

N/A: no training content changes.

Certification

N/A: no impact on certification exams.

Marketing

N/A: internal portal change.

Automation tests

  • Unit tests
    • Entity service: validation, pass-through, empty list is [], refused for non-internal callers.
    • CSM backend: 401, 400, 413, body forwarded unchanged, empty list, upstream error mapping.
    • Webapp: label and tooltip formatting, enum humanising, several allocations on one day, window splitting and id batching, failed fetch degrades, week table and legend rendering (about 50 new tests across the week and month views).
  • Integration tests
    • Entity service repository integration tests against Postgres: boundary overlaps on both ends, tentative and cancelled excluded, only the requested people, an engagement with no account/type/mode/utilization, fractional utilization.

Also fixed after the first CI run: three openapi descriptions with unquoted commas that the spec check rejected (.github/scripts/check-openapi-specs.py now reports no problems locally).

Local results:

  • entity-service: go build ./... and go vet ./... clean, service and handler tests pass, new repository integration tests pass.
  • apps/csm-portal/backend: go build ./... and go vet ./... clean, go test ./... passes.
  • apps/csm-portal/webapp: tsc -b and pnpm build pass, vitest run src/features/csm-team-schedule 654 passed.
  • Pre-existing failures, identical on a clean dev-app-csm-portal: pnpm lint reports 21 problems (5 errors, none in the team schedule feature), and the full webapp suite has 7 failing files and 5 failing tests (none touched here). One entity-service repository integration test, TestCaseAlertIntegration_Values, failed in a full-package run on a hand-built scratch database; it covers case-alert settings and was not compared against a clean base.

Security checks

  • Followed secure coding standards in http://wso2.com/technical-reports/wso2-secure-engineering-guidelines? yes
  • Ran FindSecurityBugs plugin and verified report? N/A for Go and TypeScript. go vet ./... is clean in both Go modules and gosec -fmt=text ./... reports no findings in any file this PR touches (existing findings: 6 in entity-service, 2 in the CSM backend, all in other files). The webapp changes pass the repo's tsc and build, and no new lint errors are introduced.
  • Confirmed that this PR doesn't commit any keys, passwords, tokens, usernames, or other secrets? yes

Samples

N/A: no samples affected.

Related PRs

None.

Migrations (if applicable)

N/A: no schema change; the read uses existing tables and columns.

Test environment

Go 1.23.4 and Node 24.5.0 on macOS; PostgreSQL 18.1 for the repository integration tests. The UI was not checked in a browser or against a local stack: rendering with many stacked bars, long account names, and the month strip against real chips and team tints is untested in a real layout (month contrast is checked by arithmetic against the theme surfaces, not against every team tint).

Learning

N/A.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Team schedules now show confirmed customer engagements alongside rota information in weekly and monthly views. Weekly views display read-only engagement bars; monthly rosters mark days with engagements.
    • Engagement details include available account and engagement names, with legends and accessible descriptions.
    • Engagements are shown for the selected schedule period and relevant team members.
    • If engagement information can’t be loaded, the schedule remains available and displays a status message.

… the team schedule

Add POST /team-schedule/engagement-allocations/search. For the given user
ids and a date window it returns the confirmed customer engagement
allocations that overlap the window, with the engagement's display id,
account name, type, mode of delivery and the allocation's utilization, so
the team schedule can draw them as read-only bars on each engineer's row.

Internal callers only, same window and user id validation as the other
schedule reads. Additive: no existing route or schema changes. Fields the
engagement or account lacks are omitted rather than invented.
Add POST /team-schedule/engagement-allocations/search, a view-permission
passthrough to the entity service that returns the confirmed customer
engagement allocations of the given engineers over a date window. The body
and response are forwarded unchanged (enums stay raw); upstream errors map
through the same generic handler as the neighbouring schedule searches.
Documented in the backend openapi.yaml and covered by handler tests.
… week

The week table now draws confirmed customer engagement allocations as
read-only bars, one per day for every day an allocation covers, on a row per
engineer under the leave row. A bar is labelled with the account and the
engagement id, falling back to the id and then to "Engagement", and its
tooltip carries the type, mode of delivery, allocation id, utilization and
dates, with enum values turned into words. Several allocations on one day
stack in the same cell.

The allocations are read with a new hook that batches user ids at 500 and
splits windows longer than 70 days. The ids are the people the schedule is
already drawing: the engineers on the rota read, those on leave, and the
members of the teams in view. A failed read leaves the schedule untouched and
adds a quiet note; bars from pieces that did load are kept.

Bars use a dedicated colour pair defined for both themes and a legend entry.
They link nowhere. The month roster is not covered by this change.

Walkthrough

The change adds an engagement-allocation search endpoint through the entity service and CSM portal. The team schedule requests allocations for people and dates in view, then displays them as read-only bars in Week view and markers in Roster view.

Unquoted commas and semicolons split three flow-mapping descriptions into
keys with no value, which the openapi spec check rejects.
The roster now shows a thin strip along the foot of a day cell for every day
an engineer is on a confirmed customer engagement. The strip is absolutely
placed in the cell padding, so row height, the rota chip, leave, on-call
styling and the zone split are untouched. On a zone-split day the strip runs
across every zone cell of the day.

The strip's tooltip lists each allocation covering the day, one per line:
the label, then the same details the week bar carries. Its accessible name
says how many there are and lists them; on a split day only the first zone
cell is named and the rest are hidden from assistive technology, so the day
is announced once. The strip reuses the engagement colour tokens (4.2:1 or
better against the cell in light, 6.1:1 in dark). The legend gains a matching
entry, only while a strip is drawn.

The page reads allocations for the roster's own window (the days its grid
draws) as well as for the week, through the same hook and cache keys, and
shows the same quiet note on a failed read, leaving the roster as it was.

…he c class

A read-only, unsplit day cell has no c class, so the strip rules keyed on
td.c never matched there and the marker was neither drawn nor hoverable. Key
the positioning on the marker itself.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Avoid :has() for roster marker styling.

Vite 7’s default production target includes Firefox 114, but Firefox supports :has() only from Firefox 121. In Firefox 114, the marker selectors are ignored. The empty .engmk span then loses its visible strip, absolute positioning, sizing, and tooltip hit area.

Add an engagement-marked class to the containing cells and target that class instead.
