Meters: keep every block's peak until the UI takes it - #1045
The audio thread overwrote the shared meter snapshot every block (~94 blocks/s at 512 frames, 48 kHz) while the UI read it 20–60 times a second, so the meters only ever showed the latest block and short transients were under-read (at 60 Hz and 512 frames, about a third of the blocks were never seen).
Blocks are now folded together (max per channel peak and gain reduction; plugin failures keep the latest count) until the UI takes them with Player::take_meters, which starts a new period. Blocks rendered while the UI holds the lock wait in an audio-side accumulator instead of being lost; the audio thread still only try_locks.
Stop, start and locate zero the meters in place instead of clearing the maps, so playing again no longer re-allocates every track's entry on the audio thread. The UI works out which tracks a session update deleted and tells the audio thread, which drops just those entries.
The Mix window and the Renderer read the one snapshot the app takes per poll, so a period's peaks aren't split between readers.
Testing: cargo xtask ci green. New playback tests: a one-block spike among quiet blocks reaches the UI; a spike rendered while the UI holds the meters arrives on the next read; stopping zeroes meters in place and deleted tracks are pruned; gain reduction keeps its maximum until taken.
This is the first of a small meter series: #1047 (ballistics and peak readout) builds on it, #1046 (pre-fader metering) is independent, #1049 (meter types) builds on both.

Walkthrough
Meter readings retain peak and gain-reduction maxima across rendered blocks. Playback publishes accumulated readings through reusable snapshots, removes entries for deleted tracks, and supplies the shared snapshot to UI windows.

Summary
Meter accumulation and reset semantics crates/mix/src/lib.rs, crates/playback/src/lib.rs
StripMeter and MeterSnapshot retain finite peak and gain-reduction maxima. Reset operations zero levels while retaining entries and failure history.
Audio-thread publication and track cleanup crates/playback/src/lib.rs
AudioState accumulates rendered-block meters and publishes them when the shared snapshot can be locked. Session updates send removed track IDs for cleanup. Silence marks fresh zero levels. Tests cover accumulation, lock contention, silence, deleted tracks, channel-count changes, and gain reduction.
Taking and displaying meter snapshots crates/playback/src/lib.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/lib.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/extra_windows.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/mix_window.rs
Player::take_meters transfers fresh readings and prunes deleted tracks. The meter poll and UI windows use SoundApp’s shared snapshot.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 7d4ae
A meter may briefly show an old peak after Stop when the UI holds its lock. The next successful stopped callback and meter poll clear it; this is a bounded display issue, not a merge blocker.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 37e15
Meter readings now accumulate until consumed, changing how readers share and reset them. No new privileged operation or external access path was identified; remaining uncertainty concerns lifecycle behavior and compatibility for other callers.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The traced exposure is the current application's per-track and main-output telemetry. Audio and plugin-derived measurements flow to meter graphics and status text; no new credential, network, persistence, or privileged-operation sink was identified in the changed flow. This does not establish coverage of unknown external consumers.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Forget is a private playback command carrying TrackIds derived from consecutive session snapshots. Its new authority is limited to removing meter-map entries; it does not delete session assets, manipulate credentials, or invoke plugin operations.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — The audio producer continues to avoid waiting on the UI snapshot mutex. Contended measurements merge into one retained entry per track rather than queuing every block, preserving failure isolation from a slow reader. Steady-state storage is reused, although track or channel changes can allocate.

- Around line 408-411: Update the stopped-state path so a failed shared.meters

state even when render_next produces no meter block.

… deleted tracks
When a strip's channel count changes, the first-two-channel peaks now take the new values
along with the per-channel ones. A take that finds no new block still drops the meters of
deleted tracks from the UI's copy.
