[Entity Service] Hand the deferred Salesforce write to sales-entity-service - #3017
Builds on #3016 (deferred Salesforce invite write). That PR had entity-service consume its own command and call Salesforce from the consumer. Since sales-entity-service is ours too, the Salesforce half now runs there, in the service that owns the Salesforce connection; entity-service keeps the decision to defer, the ledger, and both CSM transactions. Companion to the digiops-sales PR (sales-entity-service consumer).
Command carries the intent.salesforce.membership_write.requested now includes email, names, roles, state, integration-user flag and the project's and account's Salesforce ids, because Sales Entity cannot read this database. The request row stays the record of what is owed.
Result consumer replaces the command consumer. entity-service consumes salesforce-write-results (salesforce.membership_write.completed / .failed). CompleteDeferredSalesforceWrite re-reads the request (settled → acknowledge), reads the records back through Sales Entity REST (GetProjectContact, GetContact) and maps them with the ingest's buildMembershipUpsert, then in one transaction stamps the ids, records the DATABASE step and marks the request SUCCEEDED; only then publishes project_contact.invited. FailDeferredSalesforceWrite marks the request FAILED with Sales Entity's reason. On the results dead-letter tier's last attempt the request is FAILED naming the ids it could not stamp.
Config: SALESFORCE_WRITE_RESULTS_TOPIC / _DLQ_TOPIC, the two results consumer groups and SALESFORCE_WRITE_RESULTS_*RETRY*; the command DLQ topic and the Salesforce retry policy move to sales-entity-service.
E2E harness runs the real sales-entity-service: the compose override builds it from the digiops-sales checkout beside this repo, with MySQL and a fake Salesforce REST API (scripts/csm-compose/mock-salesforce: OAuth token, SOQL query evaluator for the predicates the service emits, sObject create/update, outage switch), and points entity-service at it. The earlier mock Sales Entity is removed.
Fix found by that run: while Salesforce is down, sales-entity-service retries its own Salesforce calls (3×, 3s/6s/12s) and answers slower than our 15 s client timeout, so entity-service saw a context deadline, not a 503, and answered 408. A timeout of the Sales Entity call while the admin's request is still alive now counts as an outage and is deferred.
Testing
Stacked on #3016 (this branch contains its commit). Merge #3016 first, or merge this PR alone — it carries both. See the comment below for the end-to-end run output.
With deferred Salesforce writes enabled, first-time invitations can be saved while Salesforce is unavailable; synchronization and invitation emails follow asynchronously.
Invitation responses and contact records indicate when Salesforce synchronization is pending or has failed.
Role changes and resends are blocked while synchronization is pending or failed. Deactivation is blocked while pending; after a failure, the contact can be removed locally.
Documentation
Added setup guidance and API documentation for deferred Salesforce writes and configuration.
Tests
Added local end-to-end scenarios for successful recovery and exhausted retries.
…s Entity is down
A portal invitation writes Salesforce inside its own transaction, first, so
an unavailable sales/sales-entity-service failed every invitation with 503.
A FIRST invitation now survives the outage: the rows commit with NULL sf_id
plus a salesforce_write_request row (migration 0249), and
salesforce.membership_write.requested is published to this service's own
topic, which this service consumes back. The consumer replays the stored
intent through the same search-before-create writeSalesforce, stamps the ids
and marks the request SUCCEEDED in one transaction, then publishes
project_contact.invited. Two consumer tiers: the main topic retries briefly
and dead-letters; the dead-letter topic retries with exponential backoff and
marks the request FAILED on its last attempt. Role change, deactivate and
resend answer 409 SALESFORCE_SYNC_PENDING meanwhile; the contact reads carry
salesforceSync. Off unless SALESFORCE_DEFERRED_WRITES_ENABLED=true.
Also adds the compose override, a switchable mock sales-entity-service and
the E2E script that exercise all three outcomes on the local stack.

…ervice
Builds on the deferred invite write: the Salesforce half no longer runs in
this service's own consumer but in sales-entity-service, which owns the
Salesforce connection. The command now carries the admin's intent and the
project's and account's Salesforce ids, since Sales Entity cannot read this
database. This service consumes the results instead: a completed result is
read back through Sales Entity's REST API, mapped with the ingest's
buildMembershipUpsert, and in one transaction stamps the ids, records the
DATABASE step and marks the request SUCCEEDED before project_contact.invited
is published; a failed result marks the request FAILED with Sales Entity's
reason. The results consumer keeps the two-tier policy; its last attempt
closes the request as FAILED naming the ids it could not stamp.
The compose mock now also plays sales-entity-service's consumer (same
contract and search-first write, switchable outage, restart-safe ids), so
the whole loop runs locally; all three E2E scenarios pass.

The change adds deferred Salesforce writes for eligible first invitations. It stores requests in a database ledger, publishes commands, and processes completion or failure results through retrying consumers. Contact responses expose pending or failed sync status. A local mock and end-to-end harness exercise these paths.
Adds feature configuration, request and event contracts, and a ledger for pending, succeeded, failed, and cancelled requests. Repository operations record attempts, publication, failure, cancellation, and completion.
Invitation deferral and completion entity-service/internal/service/project_membership_write_service.go, entity-service/internal/service/project_membership_deferred_write.go, entity-service/internal/repository/project_membership_repo.go, entity-service/internal/service/*test.go, entity-service/internal/repository/salesforce_contact_repo.go, entity-service/internal/repository/salesforce_contact_repo_test.go
Eligible first invitations can commit locally without Salesforce IDs and publish a write command. Completion results update membership data and onboarding state transactionally before publishing the invitation. Pending writes block role changes, deactivation, and resends; stuck writes can be deactivated locally.
Result consumers and retry wiring entity-service/internal/eventbus/*, entity-service/internal/server/salesforce_write_consumer.go, entity-service/internal/server/salesforce_write_consumer_test.go, entity-service/internal/server/routes.go
Adds retrying Kafka consumers for results and dead-letter results. Server startup configures the consumers and publisher, and shutdown stops them.
Contact sync status responses entity-service/internal/repository/project_contact_repo.go, entity-service/internal/service/project_contact_service.go, entity-service/internal/server/routes.go, entity-service/internal/apierror/codes.go, entity-service/openapi.yaml
Contact search and individual reads include the latest available deferred-write status. The API schema documents PENDING and FAILED status values and the related refusal codes.
Local mock and end-to-end scenarios scripts/csm-compose/mock-salesforce/*, scripts/csm-compose/sf-deferred-e2e.compose.yml, scripts/csm-compose/sf-deferred-e2e.sh
Adds a local Salesforce mock, Compose services, and scripts that check pending invitations, recovery, retry exhaustion, and resulting sync status.

… the real sales-entity-service
Observed on the local stack with the real sales-entity-service: while
Salesforce is down it retries its own Salesforce calls with backoff (3s, 6s,
12s) and so answers slower than this service's 15s client timeout. What the
invitation sees is a context deadline, not a 503, and it answered 408. A
timeout of the Sales Entity call while the admin's own request is still
alive is now classified as an outage and deferred like a 503.
The compose harness now runs the real sales-entity-service from the
digiops-sales checkout beside this repo (SALES_ENTITY_SRC), with MySQL
beside it and a fake Salesforce REST API behind it (OAuth token, a SOQL
evaluator for the predicates the service emits, sObject create and update,
an outage switch, ids unique across restarts). The earlier mock Sales Entity
is removed. The script gives the seeded project and account Salesforce-shaped
ids (the real service validates ids before putting them in SOQL), drains
leftover PENDING requests before a run and restores the outage flag on exit.
All three scenarios pass against the real consumer.

Two fixes came out of this run: a Sales Entity REST timeout while the admin request is alive is now deferred (this PR), and a refused SOQL filter value is a terminal failure in the consumer (#1744).
run-exhaust checks FAILED, then only prints project_contact.sf_id. It does not assert NULL for either project_contact.sf_id or account_contact.sf_id. Add both assertions. This is a test-coverage improvement, not a demonstrated implementation failure.

contact on another account than the project's (a partner's), the plain
(account, user) and (project, account_contact) lookups would miss the
deferred row and insert a second membership. The repository now adopts the
deferred row's account_contact, moving it to the resolved account, and stamps
the deferred project_contact in place.
last_error is truncated on a rune boundary after ToValidUTF8, so a long
non-ASCII reason cannot produce invalid UTF-8 that fails the UPDATE recording
the failure. OpenAPI: ProjectMembership.salesforceSync is declared, the ids
say when they are empty, and the operation text limits the all-or-nothing
guarantee to the non-deferred path. E2E script: private work directory and
EXIT cleanup, one shared prepare for both scenarios, and a single-record
check for project_contact.invited.

… removing a failed one, keep retryable
Review of wso2-open-operations#3017 (shayanmalinda). A deferred invitation skipped the
invitation checks the validator runs on a normal day: the command now
carries the inviter and the accounts an existing contact may belong to
(the project's and its partners, read here at deferral time; a failed
read fails the invitation rather than deferring it unchecked), and
sales-entity-service runs the domain and own-or-partner checks before it
writes. A row whose deferred write FAILED or was never published could not
be removed: deactivation now runs locally for such rows and closes the
request as CANCELLED, while role change and resend answer 409
salesforce_sync_failed; a published PENDING request still answers
salesforce_sync_pending. The codes are registered in apierror/codes.go
and documented on the three operations. The deferred row's own
account_contact is retired when the user already had one on the account
Salesforce resolved. salesforce_write_request.retryable keeps whether a
FAILED row was an exhausted outage or a refusal. The migration's header
describes the hand-off to Sales Entity. E2E: run-exhaust now also checks
retryable, the 409 on a role change and the local removal.

Minor · Align the contact-read status with the write refusal for unpublished… · openapi.yaml:19883-19886
entity-service/openapi.yaml:19883-19886 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Align the contact-read status with the write refusal for unpublished PENDING requests.
A PENDING request that was never published has two different statuses. The contact-read path reports PENDING. The write path refuses role changes and resend with 409 salesforce_sync_failed, and deactivation removes the contact locally. An administrator who reads PENDING waits for a write that was never handed to Sales Entity. The API contract should define one status for this state.
Choose one of these corrections:
Report an unpublished PENDING request as FAILED in SyncStatusForProjectContacts. This matches the write path, which already treats that state as stuck.
Treat an unpublished PENDING request as pending in the write path. This requires a re-publish path for these requests. The current source does not show one.
Update the salesforceSync description in entity-service/openapi.yaml to match the chosen behavior.

…ywhere
CodeRabbit on wso2-open-operations#3017: a PENDING request whose command publish failed showed
as "still syncing" in the contact lists while every write already treated
it as stuck (409 salesforce_sync_failed, local removal). The list query now
maps PENDING with published_on NULL to FAILED, the same test the writes
use, and the OpenAPI texts say so. The DELETE operation's 409 no longer
carries the role-change wording: a contact whose deferred write failed or
was never handed over is deactivated locally and the call returns 204.

Addressed CodeRabbit's three suggestions from the review of bb64adb1a in e62a9a07a: the contact reads report a never-published PENDING request as FAILED (same test the writes use), the DELETE 409 text no longer carries the role-change refusal and states the local 204, and both salesforceSync descriptions (ProjectMembership, ProjectContact) define that state as FAILED. @shayanmalinda

Why
Builds on #3016 (deferred Salesforce invite write). That PR had entity-service consume its own command and call Salesforce from the consumer. Since sales-entity-service is ours too, the Salesforce half now runs there, in the service that owns the Salesforce connection; entity-service keeps the decision to defer, the ledger, and both CSM transactions. Companion to the digiops-sales PR (sales-entity-service consumer).
What changes on top of #3016
salesforce.membership_write.requestednow includes email, names, roles, state, integration-user flag and the project's and account's Salesforce ids, because Sales Entity cannot read this database. The request row stays the record of what is owed.salesforce-write-results(salesforce.membership_write.completed/.failed).CompleteDeferredSalesforceWritere-reads the request (settled → acknowledge), reads the records back through Sales Entity REST (GetProjectContact,GetContact) and maps them with the ingest'sbuildMembershipUpsert, then in one transaction stamps the ids, records the DATABASE step and marks the request SUCCEEDED; only then publishesproject_contact.invited.FailDeferredSalesforceWritemarks the request FAILED with Sales Entity's reason. On the results dead-letter tier's last attempt the request is FAILED naming the ids it could not stamp.SALESFORCE_WRITE_RESULTS_TOPIC/_DLQ_TOPIC, the two results consumer groups andSALESFORCE_WRITE_RESULTS_*RETRY*; the command DLQ topic and the Salesforce retry policy move to sales-entity-service.SALESFORCE_SYNC_PENDINGguards,salesforceSyncon the contact reads, theeventbusconsumer withRetryPolicy.scripts/csm-compose/mock-salesforce: OAuth token, SOQL query evaluator for the predicates the service emits, sObject create/update, outage switch), and points entity-service at it. The earlier mock Sales Entity is removed.Testing
