Installation

PDF Reader Pro is distributed as an APK on GitHub. It needs Android 7.0 (API 24) or newer.

Download from GitHub

1. Open the latest release.
2. Under Assets, download PdfReaderPro-vX.Y.Z.apk.
3. Open the downloaded file. If Android asks, allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps, then tap Install.

Only releases marked Latest are full releases. Pre-releases (versions such as 2.7.0-beta.1) are for testing and are never offered by the in-app update check.

Install with Obtainium

Obtainium installs apps straight from their GitHub releases and keeps them updated.

• On your phone, tap Add to Obtainium, or
• In Obtainium, tap Add App and paste https://github.com/ahmmedrejowan/PdfReaderPro.

Obtainium picks the APK automatically and ignores the checksum files.

Updating

The app checks GitHub for new versions on its own, weekly by default. When a new version is out you'll see what's new and can download and install it from inside the app. You can change how often it checks, or check by hand, under Settings > Updates (see Settings).

Updates install over the existing app, so your library, bookmarks, highlights, signatures and settings are kept.

Verifying the download

Every release also carries .md5 and .sha256 files for the APK. To check a download on a computer:

sha256sum -c PdfReaderPro-vX.Y.Z.apk.sha256

On macOS use shasum -a 256 -c instead.

First launch

On first launch the app walks you through a short introduction and asks for access to your files, which it needs to find the PDFs on your device:

• Android 11 and newer: turn on Allow access to manage all files for PDF Reader Pro on the screen that opens.
• Android 10 and older: tap Allow in the storage permission dialog.

Your files are only read on your device. Nothing is uploaded; see Privacy.

Uninstalling

Uninstall it like any other app. This removes its library data, bookmarks, highlights, saved signatures and settings. Your PDF files, and anything the tools saved to Documents/PdfReaderPro, stay on your device.
