Strip Silence: the sliders move a tenth as far while Ctrl or Command is held - #1056
On main, a drag on a Strip Silence slider always moves the value as far as the pointer, so the threshold moves about 1.1 dB for each point. The reference guide (Pro Tools Reference Guide 2020.12, Chapter 41, page 926, step 4) says of Strip Threshold and Minimum Strip Duration: "For finer resolution on these controls, press Command (Mac) or Control (Windows) while adjusting them." Chapter 3's shortcut table gives the same modifier for "Fine adjustment of sliders, knobs, and breakpoints", which covers Clip Start Pad and Clip End Pad. The guide is at https://web.archive.org/web/20210805202452/https://resources.avid.com/SupportFiles/PT/Pro_Tools_Reference_Guide_2020.12.pdf.
While Ctrl (Command on a Mac) is held, a drag on Threshold, Min Strip Duration, Clip Start Pad or Clip End Pad moves the value a tenth as far, on the slider and on its value box. The new widgets::fine_slider uses the modifier test and the factor of widgets::fader (crates/ui-egui/src/widgets.rs:415-416).
Pressing or releasing the key during a drag leaves the value where it is, and the drag goes on from there, as the clip gain fader does (crates/ui-egui/src/edit_window.rs:2331-2336). Releasing the mouse button leaves the value as well.
Threshold and Clip Start Pad show one decimal place, and a drag on the slider during which the key was held rounds the value to the places its box shows. A drag without the key works as before.
ROADMAP.md gets a progress log line and a revision table row, and its header names this change. docs/ui-parity.md's fine adjust row names the sliders, with a revision row.
The new tests fail on #1055's head (the four plain egui::Slider lines):
strip_silence_sliders_move_a_tenth_as_far_with_ctrl_held: on each of the four sliders, a 30-point Ctrl-drag moves the value 0.08 to 0.12 times as far as a plain one, and the release does not move it.
ctrl_dragging_the_value_box_moves_a_tenth_as_far_too: on the Threshold and Clip Start Pad value boxes, a 20-point Ctrl-drag moves the value 0.07 to 0.13 times as far as a plain one, and the release does not move it.
the_value_box_shows_the_tenths_a_ctrl_drag_reaches: after a Ctrl-drag, the Threshold box shows the value with one decimal place.
pressing_and_releasing_ctrl_during_a_drag_keeps_the_value: pressing and releasing Ctrl mid-drag, and then the button, leave the value where it was.
Checks, with SOUNDCRAFT_NO_SYSTEM_PLUGINS=1 set for the tests:
cargo test -p soundcraft-ui-egui --test it strip_silence: 17 passed
cargo clippy -p soundcraft-ui-egui -p soundcraft-engine --all-targets -- -D warnings -A unused-mut: no warnings (the allowed unused_mut at crates/engine/src/autosave.rs:189 is on main on Windows)
cargo fmt --all -- --check: clean
cargo xtask assets and cargo xtask layers: ok
cargo xtask wasm: ok, with the unused_mut warning at crates/engine/src/autosave.rs:189 that main prints on Windows
On Windows 11 (x86-64) with rustc 1.99.0, on 1480399 (main at e82c168 merged in):
cargo fmt --all -- --check: clean
cargo clippy -p soundcraft-ui-egui --all-targets -- -D warnings: no warnings
cargo test -p soundcraft-ui-egui -p soundcraft: 445 passed, 0 failed
cargo xtask layers and cargo xtask assets: ok
On 3869492, on the same machine, cargo test -p soundcraft-ui-egui: 392 passed, 0 failed.
The cargo xtask ci result is added once this pull request's gate check passes. Merged with main at 8444edf: the fine sliders are in strip_silence_form (crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs), checked with cargo check --workspace --tests, fmt, clippy on soundcraft-ui-egui and the soundcraft-ui-egui tests (8 test binaries passed, 0 failed).
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Strip Silence sliders support fine adjustment: hold Ctrl or Command while dragging a slider or its value box to move values about one tenth as far as with a regular drag.
Fine adjustment is available for threshold, minimum strip duration, and clip start and end padding. Threshold and Clip Start Pad values display one decimal place.
Pressing or releasing Ctrl or Command during a drag does not change the current value or cause it to jump to the pointer.
…is held
While Ctrl (Command on a Mac) is held, a drag on one of the four Strip
Silence sliders moves the value a tenth as far as the same drag
without the key, on the slider and on its value box. Pressing or
releasing the key during a drag leaves the value where it is, and the
drag goes on from there. Releasing the mouse button leaves the value
too. A drag without the key works as before.
The new widgets::fine_slider uses the modifier test and the tenth of
widgets::fader. Threshold and Clip Start Pad show one decimal place,
and a drag on the slider during which the key was held rounds the
value to the places the box shows.

Merge Risk: Minimal · previous review 69d33
The fine-adjustment controls do not introduce an established merge-blocking behavior risk.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 38694
The change is confined to how four desktop controls interpret dragging. Existing value limits and explicit editing actions remain in place. Some unusual drag-interruption sequences remain unverified, but no introduced security issue was established.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated production reach is four numeric controls within the existing Strip Silence workflow. Their helper can affect editing parameters, but the inspected integration does not grant additional command authority or expand asset selection.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
inferred — The new input transformation remains before the existing editing-action boundary. The base-to-head comparison preserves dialog field ownership, numeric ranges, button-driven action construction, and command parameters; it does not demonstrate an authorization or persistence-boundary bypass.

Move edit.strip_silence_preview into its own command module.
This change adds a new command to edit.rsspecs(). The repository rule requires a new module with its own specs(), registered by one line in cmd/mod.rs.
Create a module such as cmd/strip_silence.rs. Move strip_silence_preview, strip_silence_scan, StripSettings and strip_settings into it. Keep strip_silence in edit.rs and make strip_settings visible to it. Register the new specs() in cmd/mod.rs. Then change the existing pub use edit::strip_silence_scan; line to re-export from the new module.
As per coding guidelines: "New commands go in a new module with its own specs(), registered by one line in cmd/mod.rs."

both the Strip Silence fine adjustment entry and main's entries.
widgets::fine_slider calls Ui::scope_id, which egui 0.37 uses in

The cargo xtask ci result is added once this pull request's gate check passes. Integration pull request #1107 picks up the new head at its next refresh.
Add coverage for modifier changes during value-box drags.
The value-box re-anchoring fix is not needed. egui::Response::drag_delta() reports movement since the last frame, so DragValue applies the new speed only to later pointer movement. It does not replay the accumulated drag distance.
The current tests do not cover this exact value-box transition. The mid-drag modifier test uses Role::Slider, while the value-box test keeps one modifier state for the full drag. Add a focused Role::SpinButton transition test.

Added pressing_ctrl_during_a_drag_on_the_value_box_keeps_the_value to crates/ui-egui/tests/it/strip_silence_sliders.rs in 3869492: a drag on the Threshold value box that presses Ctrl partway keeps the value where it was, and the rest of the drag moves 0.8 to 1.2 times as far as a drag with Ctrl held from the start. The test fails with the plain egui::Slider in place of fine_slider. No code changed.

Merged main at 8ca6939 (merge commit 69d336b). main moved the Strip Silence controls into strip_silence_form, so the four fine sliders now live there; the dialog arm keeps main's new call. Checked with cargo fmt --check, clippy on soundcraft-ui-egui and the Strip Silence tests (2 lib tests and 18 integration tests passed, 0 failed).
