Clip > Unloop... opens the Unloop dialog: Remove or Flatten - #1036
On main, Clip > Unloop... removes the loop iterations of the selected clips at once, with no dialog. clip.unloop already has a flatten mode, but the menu has no way to choose it. The reference guide's "Unlooping Clips" section (Pro Tools Reference Guide 2020.12, Chapter 42, page 933) describes an Unloop dialog: "Click Remove to unloop and remove all loop iterations except the first full loop iteration (source clip)" and "Click Flatten to unloop and create individual clips from each loop iteration": https://web.archive.org/web/20210805202452/https://resources.avid.com/SupportFiles/PT/Pro_Tools_Reference_Guide_2020.12.pdf
This changes what the menu item does: it opens the dialog. clip.unloop run as a command (MCP, the CLI, engine.execute) still runs at once without opening the dialog.
Unloop dialog: Cancel, Flatten and Remove. Remove gives the menu item's earlier result. Enter presses Remove, the command's default mode; the guide does not name a default button. A Flatten click in the same frame as Enter flattens. The dialog opens for the clips clip.unloop would take (the selected clips, or the clips under the edit selection on the selected tracks) and sends them with the chosen mode. When none of those clips belongs to a loop (cmd::is_looped, the check clip.unloop uses), the menu runs the command as before, and the status line shows its error.
clip.unloop is added to DIALOG_COMMANDS in crates/ui-egui/src/menus.rs.
ROADMAP.md gets a progress log line and a revision table row, and its header names this change.
Enter on a focused Cancel closes the dialog without unlooping.
New tests, each failing on main:
clip_unloop_opens_unloop_and_sends_the_chosen_mode (ui-egui): the dialog opens only with a looped clip to take (a selected clip that is not looped opens none), and it holds the selected clip. After a three-time loop of the demo's Snare clip, Flatten sends flatten and keeps every clip on the track, and Remove sends remove and takes away the two loop copies.
unloop_dialogs_flatten_keeps_each_iteration_as_its_own_clip (ui-egui, through the app): the menu opens the dialog without unlooping, and Flatten leaves every iteration with no loop.
unloop_dialogs_remove_keeps_only_the_source_clip (ui-egui, through the app).
enter_with_no_button_focused_removes (ui-egui, through the app).
enter_on_a_focused_flatten_flattens (ui-egui, through the app).
enter_on_a_focused_cancel_leaves_the_loop (ui-egui, through the app).
a_flatten_click_with_enter_in_the_same_frame_flattens (ui-egui, through the app).
Checks on Windows 11 (x86-64) with rustc 1.99.0 and SOUNDCRAFT_NO_SYSTEM_PLUGINS=1, on 74e6cd1 (with main at db51dd1 merged in):
cargo test -p soundcraft-ui-egui: 407 passed, 0 failed
cargo test -p soundcraft-engine --lib: 352 passed, 0 failed
cargo xtask assets and cargo xtask layers: ok
On e28f9d9, which adds the two Enter tests: cargo fmt --all -- --check is clean, cargo clippy -p soundcraft-ui-egui --all-targets -- -D warnings reports no warnings, and cargo test -p soundcraft-ui-egui passes 428 tests with 0 failed.
Clip > Unloop... removed the loop iterations of the selected clips at
once. It now opens the Unloop dialog. Remove deletes the loop iterations
and keeps the source clip, as the menu item did before, and Flatten
keeps each loop iteration as its own clip. Enter presses Remove. The
dialog opens for the clips clip.unloop would take and runs clip.unloop
on those clips with the chosen mode. With no clip to take, the menu runs
the command as before. Running clip.unloop as a command still unloops at
once without opening the dialog.
Enter in a dialog now presses the default button only when no widget
has the keyboard focus or a text field has it. Before, Enter on a
focused button, checkbox, radio button or combo box acted on that widget
and pressed the default button too: Enter on a focused Cancel ran the
dialog's OK action, Enter on Don't Save saved the session first (or
opened Save As when it had never been saved), Enter on Browse... opened
the picker and then pressed OK or Bounce, and Enter on a checkbox, radio
button or combo box toggled, picked or opened it and then pressed the
dialog's default button.

The UI now opens an Unloop dialog for selected looped clips. The dialog offers Flatten and Remove actions. Enter handling now accounts for dialog focus and the first frame after opening.
The engine exposes is_looped. The UI opens the Unloop dialog when targeted clips include a looped clip. The dialog sends clip.unloop with the flatten or remove mode. Tests cover both outcomes, and the roadmap records the dialog.
Handle Enter with focused widgets crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/it/focused_dialog_buttons.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/it/main.rs
On the first dialog frame, Enter is ignored and text input focus is cleared. On later frames, Enter activates the default action only when no widget or a text field has focus. Integration tests cover focused controls and default-button activation.

Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review 63372
Unloop's Remove can be triggered by an Enter that was meant to open the dialog, either when it replaces another open dialog from the command palette or when Enter is held. The edit can be undone but is unexpected. Fix the first-frame reset on dialog replacement and require a fresh Enter press before merging.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 63372
A pending Unloop action can survive a session change and affect the replacement session if clip IDs overlap. The resulting edit remains undoable. No expansion of command privileges was identified.
Retained concerns
Low · reliability · inferred: The new Unloop dialog retains session-local clip IDs without binding them to the originating document. An authorized programmatic session replacement leaves the dialog open; subsequently choosing Remove or Flatten resolves those old IDs in the replacement session. Overlapping IDs belonging to a loop can therefore edit clips from a different document than the one that opened the dialog. This newly exposes Unloop to an existing dialog-lifecycle weakness. Missing IDs fail safely and successful edits are undoable, limiting the impact.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The identified ownership failure affects matching loop chains in the active replacement document. Reaching it through programmatic session switching requires existing command-execution access, which already permits direct editing; no additional authority is gained through this path.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Menu-style control requests intentionally route through UI menu invocation, while engine.execute requests route directly to app.run. The dialog does not replace engine validation: unknown modes are rejected, missing clip IDs are skipped, and a command affecting no loop returns an error.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — Unloop remains an undoable engine command. Command errors restore the prior document, successful document edits receive an undo snapshot, and undo/redo swap document snapshots. These controls contain partial edits and permit recovery from an unintended successful Unloop, but do not prevent targeting the wrong document.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Bind deferred entity-targeting actions to the originating document generation, or cancel them on document replacement, so valid numeric IDs cannot silently acquire a different document owner.

Add a test for Enter with no focused control in the Unloop dialog.
No test sends Enter to the open Unloop dialog without a focused control and checks the Remove outcome. The default-button path can regress to Flatten or to no action without a failing test. The focused-Flatten test does not detect this, and the generic no-focus test uses the Fades dialog.
Enter with nothing focused reaches buttons(ui, "Remove", enter), which sets pressed = enter && ready (dialogs.rs:749-758). Flatten uses a plain ui.button("Flatten") with no Enter handling (dialogs.rs:501-505). The only Unloop Enter test focuses Flatten first. egui then treats Enter as a click on that button, so a default swap to Flatten would still pass that test. A test at this site should press Enter with the dialog open and assert the Remove result.

The dialog opened for any selected clip, so an ordinary clip showed
Remove and Flatten, and either choice only gave "the selection is not
a looped clip". The menu now opens the dialog only when a clip it
takes belongs to a loop (`cmd::is_looped`, the loop check
`clip.unloop` uses); otherwise it runs the command, and the status
line shows that error.

A dialog clears the keyboard focus on the first frame it is drawn, so a
button in the main window that still had the focus no longer takes the
Enter meant for the dialog. Enter in that first frame, which opened the
dialog from a menu item or the command palette, no longer presses its
default button. In the Unloop dialog, a Flatten click in the same frame
as Enter flattens instead of removing.

…does not press the default
A dialog opened in place of another one, or the save prompt opened from a
dialog, now gets the same first frame as a dialog opened when none was
open: the keyboard focus is cleared and that frame's Enter is ignored.
Enter presses the default button only on a new key press, so the repeats
of an Enter held down from the menu or palette do not press it.
A dialog clears the keyboard focus on the first frame it is drawn, so Enter presses its default button even when a button in the main window had the focus when the dialog opened.
An Enter in that first frame, which opened the dialog from a menu item or the command palette, does not press the default button.
In the Unloop dialog, a Flatten click in the same frame as Enter flattens instead of removing.
New tests: a_dialog_opened_while_a_window_button_has_the_focus_takes_enter, the_enter_that_opens_a_dialog_does_not_press_its_default_button and a_flatten_click_with_enter_in_the_same_frame_flattens; each fails without its change.

…skip the opening Enter
Rename Track, Rename Clip, Rename Marker and Modify Group now open through
the same path as the other dialogs, so when one replaces a dialog that is
already open, its first frame clears the keyboard focus and ignores Enter.
Pushed 19a8593: the rename and Modify Group dialogs now open through set, so one that replaces an open dialog ignores the Enter of its first frame, with a test. The branch still merges cleanly with main.
Thanks! The Unloop dialog looks right. This PR also changes Enter handling for every dialog, and #1059 carries a different fix for the same bug (92a5ce9). Could you split the dialog-wide Enter/focus change into its own PR and reconcile it with 92a5ce9, so only one fix lands? The Unloop part can then go in on its own.
The changes to Enter and the keyboard focus in every dialog, and their
tests in focused_dialog_buttons.rs, are removed from this branch. The
Unloop dialog keeps its Flatten and Remove buttons, Enter on Remove, and
a Flatten click winning over an Enter in the same frame.
The dialog-wide Enter and focus fix is now #1243, reconciled with 92a5ce9 into one fix that carries both sets of tests. This pull request now holds only the Unloop dialog (e0ddd63, with main merged in as 74e6cd1), and #1059 no longer carries its own copy (052d857).
Merged main at b35dd0f into the branch (8ae091e). The one conflict, in dialogs.rs, keeps both the Unloop dialog and the new NewTracks dialog. cargo check --workspace --tests, clippy on the engine and ui-egui crates, and their tests (868 passed) pass.

First-pass review notes (automated; combined from specialist angles: tests). Please treat as suggestions and verify before acting.
Summary: Clip > Unloop... now opens an Unloop dialog with Cancel, Flatten, and Remove instead of unlooping immediately; Remove preserves the previous result, Flatten creates individual clips from each loop iteration, Enter presses Remove by default, and clip.unloop run as a command still runs without a dialog.
Logical units:
Unloop dialog in dialogs.rs (Dialog::Unloop) sending the clips clip.unloop would take with the chosen mode, only when at least one is looped per cmd::is_looped, otherwise running the command as before
clip.unloop added to DIALOG_COMMANDS in crates/ui-egui/src/menus.rs
ROADMAP.md progress log line, revision table row, and header update
New ui-egui tests for dialog opening, Flatten, Remove, Enter on focused Flatten, and Flatten click with Enter in the same frame
Findings:
[tests] crates/ui-egui/tests/it/unloop_dialog.rs — no test for the stated default that Enter with no button focused presses Remove (dialogs.rs, Dialog::Unloop branch, enter && action.is_none()); the existing Enter test only covers focused Flatten, so a regression changing or removing the default would pass. Add a test that opens the dialog with no button focused, sends Enter, and asserts Remove is sent / only the source clip remains.
Overlaps:#1243 fixes Enter on a focused Cancel pressing Remove/OK for all dialogs; this pull request does not carry its own fix for that behavior in the Unloop dialog.
Verdict: needs changes — 1) add the missing test for Enter with no button focused pressing Remove, 2) the current Enter coverage only verifies focused Flatten, leaving the default unverified, 3) the Enter-on-focused-Cancel issue remains and is deferred to #1243.
Fixed in e28f9d9: enter_with_no_button_focused_removes opens the dialog with no button focused, presses Enter, and checks that Remove ran and only the source clip is left. It fails when Remove no longer takes the Enter (crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs:560).
Enter on a focused Cancel: in this dialog it closes the dialog without unlooping. Cancel's click clears the pending action (dialogs.rs:740-742), and buttons returns pressed && !canceled (dialogs.rs:844). e28f9d9 adds enter_on_a_focused_cancel_leaves_the_loop, which fails with both of those removed. The body said Enter there pressed Remove; that sentence was wrong and has been corrected. Dialogs: Enter presses the default button only when no button has the focus #1243 changes the shared Enter handling (dialogs.rs:458) that this dialog reads, so this pull request does not need a fix of its own for it.
